RAMBLING BOY & CAHIR ISLAND CLAIM CLONMEL SWEEPSTAKE DECIDERS

RAMBLING BOY & CAHIR ISLAND CLAIM CLONMEL SWEEPSTAKE DECIDERS

Peter Farrell

There were a couple of sweepstake deciders on offer at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium last night and the feature of those was the €1,500 to the winner Clona Duke @ Stud ON2 525.

George Roche was represented in the decider by his heavyweight puppy, Rambling Boy, and the 6/4 built on his semi final success with another tidy performance. A winner in 28.95 .10s last time out, the August puppy donned the white jacket and he came away well to take control at the opener. From here, there were several runners impacted by first bend traffic in behind and the son of Jacob Tashadelek and Boherna Megan proceeded to take a stranglehold of the contest. Setting a strong gallop thereafter, Blackstone Rachl stayed on well, however, it was all in vain as Rambling Boy crossed the line with three lengths to spare. The time was 29.05 .10s.

CAHIR BOUNCES BACK IN A4 FINAL

Prior to that, the final of the Clonmel Track Members A4 550 was on offer and the €1,000 decider went the way of the even money favourite Cahir Island.

Narrowly beaten last time out by a short-head, Cahir Island showed fine speed on that occasion and as such, Seamus Shealy’s charge was installed as the even money favourite to reverse the form. Running from trap four, the son of Droopys Sydney and Another Blonde didn’t come away too fluently but showed good early dash to follow Boozed Burgess and Ruling Arizona down the back. Four lengths adrift midway down the back, Cahir Island upped the ante off the final turn and went for a daring run up the inside which ultimately proved crucial. Three runners crossing the line in tandem, a short-head separated all three as Cahir Island got the verdict over Boozed Burgess, in a time of 30.35 .10s.
