It has been quite a year for the Thurles Sales with Derby winner Ballyanne Sim and Juvenile Derby winner Balline Kyle having passed through the bench at the venue.

But another budding star Thurles purchase has appeared in the TV Trophy at Crayford.

Now trained by Diane Henry, Savana Winner is a daughter of Ballymac Eske and Old Refrain and made a winning debut at Thurles when clocking 29.38 for the 525 yards on August 25th. She was entered for the Thurles Sales on October 23rd and was sold for 2,000 guineas after finishing second in 29.42.

She made her UK debut on November 18th when finishing fourth over 692 metres at Henlow. Six days later she turned up at Crayford in a TV Trophy Trial Stake and led on the ninth bend when winning that contest.

Her next outing was in the first round of the TV Trophy on Saturday last where she produced a huge finish from well off the pace to grab a late victory.

Now she is in the final to be run at Crayford on Saturday and she could be a real value bet. If ever a greyhound was bred for a TV Trophy it is Savana Winner. Bred by Pat Dalton, she was originally named Festivity until she became Savana Winner after her Thurles Sales purchase.  .

Savana Winner’s dam was Old Refrain and she is a daughter of the great Flying Winner, one of the greatest staying dams on modern times. Old Refrain is a litter sister to champion stayer Volcano while she is a half-sister to another super dam Tradition.
