Last Thursday night at their unit in Broom Lane, Mallow Search and Rescue launched their new boat thanks to the generosity of the public towards a Greyhound Benefit race night held in memory of Colin Ronayne who tragically lost his life in the River Lee in 2016.

The Greyhound benefit night raised in excess of €65,000 and allowed the unit to upgrade its ageing Ford Transit van to a Nissan 141 van and to buy a new 6.5 metre boat complete with wheel-house engine and trailer costing over €64,000 .

Pictured cutting the tape is the late Colin's parents Sheila and John Joe.

Also in attendance were representatives of An Garda Siochana, the fire brigade and Mr Frank Nyhan, Chairman of Irish Greyhound board.
