The government’s Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business was published last night. Under the plan, ‘behind closed doors sporting activities events where arrangements are in place to enable participants maintain social distancing’ is permitted under Phase 3. This phase is currently scheduled to commence on 28th June 2020.
The IGB is very disappointed with the suggested date for resumption and is in contact with the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine in relation to the particular circumstances associated with greyhound racing and the ability of the industry to run behind closed doors in compliance with all necessary COVID-19 protocols. This was demonstrated when race meetings were successfully run behind closed doors during March 2020 prior to the suspension of activity. Engagement with the Dept of Agriculture, Food & the Marine will continue over the coming week.
During the suspension of racing activity, all tracks are being maintained to a ‘racing ready’ standard and the necessary adjustments are being made to facilities to ensure compliance with all updated COVID-19 protocols to enable a full resumption of racing when circumstances permit.
