There will be a new sponsor of the Irish Cesarewitch at Mullingar with the confirmation that the Clancy family from Clonmellon will support the 600 yards classic in memory of the late Larry Clancy who was a true legend in greyhound sport in not just the midlands but all over Ireland.
Larry Clancy was a regular over the years at Navan, Dundalk and Mullingar tracks but he will be best remembered as the breeder of the remarkable 1974 Irish Derby winner Lively Band.
Over the years Larry Clancy raced some magnificent greyhounds and he bred a huge number of his class trackers.
The 2019 Larry Clancy Memorial Irish Cesarewitch will have a winner’s prize of €7,000 and will commence at Mullingar on Saturday, April 20th.
Orlaith Farrelly, the Trainee Racing Support Officer at Mullingar, said, “We are delighted that Larry Clancy’s family have decided to sponsor such a prestigious event and we look forward to this new partnership.
The breakdown of the prizemoney will be: 1st €7,000, 2nd €2,000, 3rd €1,000, Unplaced finalist €455 each.
