The semi finals of the Michael Kennedy Memorial Guys & Dolls were the main attraction to Clonmel Greyhound Stadium last night and Airmount Karen gained revenge on Emers Velvet with an assured performance.
After falling to a half length defeat at the hands of Emers Velvet last week, supporters kept the faith and Airmount Karen (Tyrur Big Mike - Airmount Swank) went to traps a joint 6/4 favourite with ‘Emers’. The well built 71 pound bitch was quicker into stride last night and the striped jacketed runner surged to the front approaching the opening corner. Three lengths clear down the back, Springfield Jet was in hot pursuit with the improving Emers Velvet showing some eye catching pace, back in third. The winning line in sight, Airmount Karen maintained a strong gallop and was never under any threat despite the fast finish of Emers Velvet who grabbed the runners-up spot. Two lengths clear come the line, Gerard Kiely’s bitch recorded a very smart time of 28.83.
The second semi final was another straightforward affair as Our Seanie made it four wins from five starts for Noeleen Sealy & Eric Keane.
A 5/2 market chance, Our Seanie (Tullymurry Act - Dunkill Heroe) came away in his usual style from trap five and set upon a fierce gallop to the opening corner. Swooping the corner, ‘Seanie’ opened a two length lead down the back as Live Glory emerged from the pack and was chasing hard approaching the penultimate turn. However, Our Seanie is nothing if not game and he pulled out all the stops to come home a length and a half clear of ‘Glory’, in a smart time of 29.04.
ROISIN EASES TO DEBUT MARATHON WIN
Everyone loves a marathon contest and race six saw six greyhounds enter unknown territory in the ‘Greyhounds Make Great Pets Novice 750’.
The bookies were undecided in this one and made three co-2/1 favourites with Partners Roisin installed as one of those favourites. However, it was Byrneville Molly who bounced out in front from trap four but she was quickly swallowed up after 300 yards and it was the red jacket of Suirview Kea who took up the running. Partners Roisin in orange was some six lengths off the pace at this point but she stepped it up a notch approaching the penultimate bend. The race very much up for grabs, Partners Roisin flew around the bottom two bends to take up the running and soon developed a five length advantage in the final 50 yards. Clocking a decent 42.17, the daughter of ‘Ballymac Eske - Flomur Roisin’ looks like she will stay further and the future is bright for Harty’s Bar Syndicate owned brindle.
