FINE DISPLAYS AT HQ

Ian Fortune

The doors may have been closed to the public, but Friday’s action at Shelbourne Park produced some fine displays.

There were three finals up for decision and Barstool Rio posted a fastest of the night 28.69 to win the final of the A3 525.

George Roche’s son of Rio Quattro and Fawn Samantha faced just three rivals and he made the most of an ideal pitch on the fence. Shooting into the turn he made every inch to contain the late charge of Paradise Mata by a head.

Abbeyville Oscar was always close to the pace in A2 525 decider. Tom Egan’s son of Abbeyville Tipp and Abbeyville Pearl flashed from trap five to lead around the turn. Ardmulchan challenged and headed the early pace-setter down the back straight but Abbeyville Oscar is strong and he ran on well to lead again in the final yards for a half length victory in 28.95.

Chestnut Clint made an early advantage count in the eighth race, the final of the A5 525. Flying up the fence, the son of Laughil Blake and Playmistyforme was left clear on the turn and he proceeded to cruise home two and a half lengths clear of Nice Feeling in 29.56.
