Music Glideaway 4/1 From 33/1
August 30th 2023
The final of the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is just days away with the Jennifer O’Donnell trained The Other Kobe the 2/1 from 8/1 favourite to win the €125,000 prize at Shelbourne Park.
This son of Ballymac Best – Mountaylor Queen showed his early dash yet again when winning his semi-final heat in 29.58. It’s no surprise to see him chalked up as the favourite following his quarter final display when he clocked 29.15 along with sectionals of 3.38 and 16.88, the fastest of the competition.
His trainer Jennifer O’Donnell is attempting to make history on Saturday night with The Other Kobe as he is a full brother to last year’s winner Born Warrior and should he follow in his brother’s pawprints then it will go down as one of the best training performances we have ever seen at the Ringsend track.
The Pat Buckley trained Bens Teddy qualified in second, just ¾ of a length behind The Other Kobe. He finished strong with the sponsors making him 7/2 from 10/1 and he looks like great value. The Graham Holland trained Bockos Crystal was another length back in third with her outright chances hammered into 5/1 from 16/1 despite a tricky draw in trap five on Saturday night.
The opening semi-final went to the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Music Glideaway who ran out a comfortable winner in 29.32. This greyhound has surprised many by reaching the final and his odds have been cut into 4/1 from 33/1, one of the biggest movers.
This son of Newinn Taylor – Glideaway Magic won by four lengths with the John Jones owned and trained Well Met finishing second. He ran a super race with trap one to suit him in the final. His odds have been chopped into 4/1 from 14/1 and what a story it would be if he wins as John reached the final a few years ago with a dog called Our Surprise only to have to withdraw him before the big night.
A bitch called Threesixfive grabbed third place for young trainer Scott Phelan who is enjoying every moment of reaching his first derby final. This lady has been incredible for her owners which is a fascinating story. They bought the bitch after backing the Paul Hennessy trained Heaven Help Us to win at Cheltenham at 33/1. They used the winnings wisely and are now in the derby final as the underdog with her odds at 33/1 and she was only a last minute entry into the competition!
Beepers Lariat is the 11/8 favourite to win the €7,500 Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate final for trainer Jack Kennelly with the Pat Buckley trained Ballinabola Una 2/1 from 10/1 following her awesome semi-final victory.
All the outright odds can be found here. You can watch the live action on Virgin Media Three and Sporty Stuff TV (RPGTV – Sky channel 427). Enjoy the best greyhound race in the world.
** The full 13 race-card will be available for betting later in the week with Money Back as a FREE BET if you are 2nd.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It’s every greyhound enthusiasts dream to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park and Saturday night is going to be bursting with an enthusiastic crowd. It’s the most wide-open renewal I have seen in recent years but should The Other Kobe emulate his brother Born Warrior then it would go down in the history books as one of the best training feats of all time. The very best of luck to all our finalists.”

Annagh Bailey 6/1 From 14/1 To Win €7,500 Prize
August 23rd 2023
Sponsor BoyleSports has made the Robert Gleeson trained Optic Chico the new favourite to win the Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate with his odds cut into 3/1 from 8/1.
The son of Droopys Sydney – Zola Princess won his heat in the opening round of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, but was knocked out the following week resulting in him qualifying for this competition. He ran on strong last week to finish third behind winner Neon Lights in a time of 29.69, but plenty of outright support has arrived forcing the bookmaker to cut his odds.
It was great to see Da Bold Freddie return to winning ways for trainer Paul Hennessy who obliged at odds of 10/1. He clocked 29.76 with his chances trimmed inro 12/1 from 25/1.
Blastoff Mac was the winner of heat three in 30.05 with his odds cut in half to 33/1 from 66/1, although he is the outsider of the remaining twelve. The final heat winner was the impressive Annagh Bailey for trainer Rachel Wheeler who dug deep to win in 29.71. He is now 6/1 from 14/1 to claim the prize of €7,500, which has been increased from €5,000.
The outright betting for the Derby Plate can be found here.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Our great friend Michael Fortune will be looking down on this competition named after him with great pride but I wonder who his money would be going on! Annagh Bailey has to be taken serious after his victory but the punters really like Optic Chico despite not winning a heat of the Derby Plate yet.”

Coolavanny Hoffa Demoted To Second Favourite For First Time
August 21st 2023
De Lahdedah has been made the new favourite to win the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby after the sponsors trimmed his odds into 2/1 from 6/1.
Trained my Liam Dowling, De Lahdedah produced another sensational performance on Saturday night when winning his quarter final heat in 29.31. He pulled away from his rivals to win by seven lengths, with the Jennifer O’Donnell trained Seven Beach (33/1 from 40/1) grabbing second and the Murt Leahy trained Raha Mofo (remains 25/1) qualifying in third.
Bens Teddy was the winner of the second heat for trainer Pat Buckley with his odds shortening into 10/1 from 14/1 with BoyleSports to win the title on September 2nd. The son of Droopys Sydney – Beechgrove Bell was brilliant from trap one with a decent 29.39 recorded. He beat Bockos Crystal (remains 14/1) by four and a half lengths with the strong Threesixfive (40/1 from 50/1) grabbing third.
The Jennifer O’Donnell trained The Other Kobe produced the fastest sectionals of the competition so far when winning heat three. This full brother to last year’s winner Born Warrior took an almighty fast start wearing the red jacket with sectionals of 3.38 and 16.88 clocked. He went on to win in 29.15 by three lengths with BoyleSports Champion Stakes winner Trinity Junior and long-standing outright favourite Coolavanny Hoffa qualifying.
The Other Kobe has plummetted into 6/1 from 20/1 while the Peter Cronin trained Trinity Junior is 10/1 from 20/1. Coolavanny Hoffa has been eased out to 7/2 from 3/1, meaning he has lost his position at the top of the betting for the very first time.
The final heat went to the Matthew Harte trained Clonroosk Sydney who got up on the line to win by a head to Well Met, with Music Glideaway another neck back in third. Clonroosk clocked 29.55 and is now 20/1 from 33/1 to win the €125,000. Well Met is 14/1 from 25/1 for John Jones while the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Music Glideaway is 33/1 from 50/1.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Some big names were knocked out of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby on Saturday night, but the biggest losers in the market are still looming large for us. We now make De Lahdedah the favourite after sustained support with Hoffa eased for the first time since betting opened. It’s all to play for now!”

Ballymac Run 6/1 From 12/1
August 16th 2023
Daleroad Duke is the new outright favourite to win the Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate after a stunning opening round performance.
Sponsor BoyleSports has reacted to his 29.42 victory by trimming this Thomas O’Keefe owned and trained tracker into 7/2 from 8/1, making him the new frontrunner in the betting. The son of Good News – Burgess Sarah is still only a puppy, but the future is looking bright for this youngster.
The Liam Dowling trained Ballymac Run has also seen her odds shorten after her 29.34 winning performance in the opening round. This talented lady landed the Shelley Fennelly Memorial Final at Curraheen Park last month and is now 6/1 from 12/1 to win the Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate.
Other heat winners that have seen their odds trimmed include Ballinabola Una (20/1 from 25/1), Clona Rocko (10/1 from 14/1) and Pape Di Oro (10/1 from 14/1).
News released this week from BoyleSports means that the winner of the competition will collect a massive €7,500, with that amount increased from €5,000. The final will be on the same night as the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby on September 2nd so there is plenty to look forward to.
The betting for the 2023 Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate can be found here.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate always delivers great racing and it’s wonderful to see the prize money being increased. Coolavanny Hoffa Remains Favourite For €125,000 Prize
August 15th 2023
The Liam Dowling trained De Lahdedah has seen his odds halved into 6/1 from 12/1 with the sponsors to win the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.
The speedy son of Lenson Bocko – Ballymac Sarahjo ran a huge race on Saturday night to win heat 2 in a blistering time of 29.15, the fastest time of the competition so far. He justified his short odds of 10/11 with Clonroosk Sydney grabbing second place along with Bens Teddy qualifying in third.
The Michael J O’Donovan trained Coolavanny Hoffa has seen his odds drift slightly to 3/1 from 11/4 but remains the biggest loser in the market for BoyleSports. Hoffa finished second to the Graham Holland trained Bockos Crystal who clocked 29.45, beating the 1/6 red-hot favourite by ¾ of a length. Bockos is now 14/1 from 20/1 to win the title.
It was a great night for trainer Murt Leahy as the trainer won two fantastic heats with Droopys Bri and Droopys Nice One, as well as his reigning Bitch of the Year Raha Mofo qualifying. Droopys Bro is still a puppy but dominated his rivals to win by four lengths in 29.42. His odds have been clipped into 16/1 from 33/1.
His kennelmate Droopys Nice One won the final heat of the night in 29.64 with her chances clipped into 25/1 from 33/1. Other heat winners on the night include Scaglietti who is now 8/1 from 12/1, Bobsleigh Dream who is 12/1 from 16/1, Well Met who remains 25/1 and Mr Chelm who is 14/1 from 25/1.
The betting for the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby can be found here.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The third round of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby didn’t disappoint and it was a fantastic night for the ladies with three bitches winning. Coolavanny Hoffa remains our biggest liability, but De Lahdedah is on the move after his outstanding 29.15 victory.”

Sober Glory Backed Into 14/1 From 20/1
9th August 2023
The second round of the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is done and dusted with 48 greyhounds still in contention ahead of the third round this Saturday.
Sponsor BoyleSports has made Coolavanny Hoffa the 11/4 from 5/1 favourite to scoop the €125,000 prize on September 2nd after another terrific performance at Shelbourne Park last weekend.
This speedy son of Droopys Sydney – Coolavanny Ella made all from his draw in trap six to win by nine lengths in a time of 29.31, the joint fastest time of the second round. The Michael J O’Donovan trained star also clocked a blistering sectional of 17.01 to the third bend which is also the joint fastest split so far in the competition.
Graham Holland has a nice team remaining in the derby with Clona Duke rated his best chance of winning the title. He made it back-to-back heat victories on Friday night in a time of 29.55 with his odds clipped into 10/1 from 12/1, making him the second favourite.
The Karol Ramsbottom trained Sober Glory is another tracker with two heat wins as the pacey son of Droopys Sydney – Calzaghe Jan went back-to-back in 29.42. His odds have been trimmed into 14/1 from 20/1 for outright glory.
Other heat winners across the weekend include litter sisters Undulation and Undisputed. The Brendan Matthews trained Undulation won her heat in 29.53 with her odds now down to 33/1 from 66/1, while the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Undisputed recorded 29.48 and is 25/1 from 33/1.
Bens Teddy was impressive for trainer Pat Buckley as he mirrored the same time as Coolavanny Hoffa in 29.31 with his odds now cut into 16/1 from 25/1. The kennel also enjoyed success with Glengar Martha winning her heat at massive odds of 28/1. She clocked 29.48 and is now 40/1 from 100/1.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The second round was full of surprises, but it is no shock to see Coolavanny Hoffa backed further. He is our biggest liability now with Ballymac Marino in the red figures too, so we can’t wait to see what the third round has in store on Saturday night.”

Kennelmate Ryhope Beach 14/1 From 25/1
1st August 2023
The opening round of the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby was full of shocks and surprises but one result that was fully expected was Coolavanny Hoffa cruising to victory.
This Michael J O’Donovan trained tracker showed plenty of early pace from trap six and it was evident after a few strides that this fella wasn’t going to be caught. He won by eight lengths in 29.43 and is now 6/1 from 8/1 favourite with the sponsors to win the €125,000 prize.
He has a few kennelmates that are just as exciting with Ryhope Beach winning his heat comfortably by a huge margin of 15½ lengths in 29.34. It was pretty special so it’s no wonder his price has been cut into 14/1 from 25/1.
But that’s not all from the brilliant kennel as Another Holiday not only gave his trainer a superb treble of winners in the opening round but he also clocked the fastest sectional to the third bend in a blistering 17.01. His odds have tumbled into 16/1 from 66/1.
There were 26 heats in total with plenty of outright movers. Some notable performances include the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Good Maestro who is now 16/1 from 50/1 after his stunning 29.24 victory.
Graham Holland has one of the best kennel of greyhounds in the country and while it was desperate unlucky what happened to Swords Rex, the trainer still boasts an incredible team with Clona Duke the 12/1 joint second favourite. He got his derby campaign off to a winning start in 29.47 with the Pat Buckley trained Ballinabola Ed joining him in the market after his 29.34 win.
Other heat winners that have been trimmed in price include the Liam Dowling trained De Lahdedah who is 14/1 from 20/1, Ballymac Finn 16/1 from 25/1 and the recent Dundalk International winner Raha Mofo who is 20/1 from 25/1.
All outright prices for the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby can be found here.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Michael J O’Donovan has an exciting kennel at the moment with three magnificent greyhounds who have all been punted since winning their opening round heats. There is still a long way to go with Patrick Guilfoyle’s Good Maestro also coming in for support. The second round is on this Friday and Saturday so expect plenty more movement and the best of luck to everyone!”

Defending Champion Born Warrior Draws Tough Opening Heat
The 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is just days away and following the draw on Monday at Shelbourne Park, it’s Coolavanny Hoffa who remains the 8/1 favourite with the sponsors.
This Michael J O’Donovan trained star hasn’t raced since the 2022 renewal of the prestigious competition, but all eyes will be on him as he races from trap six in heat 11 on Friday night.
There are so many heats to talk about, but the one that is drawing most attention is heat three with defending champion Born Warrior in trap five, BoyleSports Champion Plate winner Ballymac Walk in trap six and English Greyhound Derby champion Gaytime Nemo in trap three. Born Warrior is 40/1 to go all the way, Gaytime Nemo is 33/1 and Ballymac Walt is 25/1. It’s worth noting that the title Ballymac Walt won was the same one Born Warrior won last year before winning the derby. It’s an exceptional heat to be treated to in the opening round.
Easter Cup winner Swords Rex races from trap three in heat 20 for trainer Graham Holland. He has early pace on his inside with Undisputed in trap one and Droopys Onestop in trap two, but it should be a straightforward task for this powerhouse who is the 10/1 second favourite to win the €125,000 prize for the winner.
Holland has a huge team of seventeen entered in this year’s competition with Clona Duke (12/1), Clonbrien Treaty (14/1) and Gaytime Hugo (25/1) just some of his hopefuls taking part.
Recent Dundalk International winner Raha Mofo is 25/1 for trainer Murt Leahy, while runner-up Ballinabola Ed can be backed at 12/1 for trainer Pat Buckley.
156 names went into the drum on Monday afternoon at Shelbourne Park with twenty-six heats to look forward to this weekend. The action kicks off at 7.14 on Friday evening with thirteen heats and another thirteen on Saturday. Let the fun begin.
All the heat betting can be found here and the outright betting can be found here.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It’s like Christmas time for greyhound enthusiasts with the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby about to start and the standard is as high as usual, with heat three standing out in the first round. Roll on Friday!”

Kennelmate Ryhope Beach 14/1 From 25/1
The opening round of the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby was full of shocks and surprises but one result that was fully expected was Coolavanny Hoffa cruising to victory.
