The winner of the 2017 event was Lughill Robbie, owned by Larry O' Rourke and trained by Graham Holland.
The event runs over 525 yards.
18 greyhounds will compete in three first round heats on Saturday, October 27, with the first three in each qualifying for the next round.
These 9 will be joined by three invited dogs – last month’s BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby winner Ballyanne Sim, as well as invites from the Irish Independent Irish Laurels and the Dublin Coach Juvenile Derby.
Racing manager with Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium, Kathleen Lennon, commented: “The next three Saturdays will be packed with high quality racing here at Kilcohan Park. It doesn’t come any better than a Derby winner, and we’re delighted that Ballyanne Sim’s connections have chosen to run him here in Waterford in his first race since his €140,000 Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby victory. Owners, trainers and racing fans alike are all looking forward to this Saturday, as are we. It will be an action packed few weeks here in Waterford, culminating in the GAIN Greyhound Nutrition Select Stakes Final on the 10th of November.”
She added: “This is GAIN Greyhound Nutrition’s 7th year sponsoring the event and we’d like to thank them for their continued support. The Stakes have gone from strength to strength over the last number of years and we’re very excited about the next three weekends of racing. We would encourage anyonge looking to attend to book their restaurant packages early, as demand is expected to be high.”
